Curiosity Cabinet 2 - Upcycling

The other day I got a bargain, an old display cabinet for a tenner!  It had CC2 written on it, which I can only guess means Curiosity Cabinet 2.  Here it is, complete with rust...

Looks like it's been extended at some point in the past by adding more wood to the front.  I started by sanding it and quickly discovered it was made out of many different types of wood and veneered wood.
I decided to stain it in Walnut to match the decor of the room.  However, as all the woods were different each surface took the stain differently ending up with a result that didn't look that good, so I decided to go with it and take the look further, distressing it with thin sandpaper and a razor blade.
The finished look is a "well weathered" walnut coloured cabinet, which looks much better in person than in these pictures...
Currently home to my collection of geeky things.  Yes that Star Wars and Star Trek in the same cabinet!  It is possible to like both, just ask Simon Pegg.  That's the beauty of the human mind, the ability to hold two conflicting ideas at the same time ... actually that's what went wrong with HAL9000 isn't it?  The inability to compute the conflicting information ... "Open the pod bay doors HAL."  ... Okay, I'll stop now :)

New Vinyl: White Stripes - Icky Thump

Love them or hate them, I've always been a fan of Jack White and, as I've mentioned on this blog previously, Third Man Records.  This morning, my Icky Thump vinyl arrived, purchased with royalties from record sales on my label.  Using money from music sales to grow my record collection ... fancy that! :)

Dinosaur Jr. Vinyl

New arrival. 180g heavy weight, double vinyl edition of Dinosaur Jr.'s 'Farm'.  Excellent artwork by Marq Spusta [ http://www.marqspusta.com/ ].  I can now say that the CD version didn't do the artwork any justice at all.

Best Thing About 2011...

The best thing about 2011 happened on, what was possibly the sunniest day of the year, June 4th... Helen and I got married at the very picturesque Lantallack in Cornwall.

We had a Civil Ceremony, a Celtic Blessing/Handfasting, good food, excellent music and great company. A fantastic day was had by us and all who attended.

Here's a few pics...

Xmas Vinyl

Lots of lovely Xmas vinyl this year.

First up, my parents-in-law gave me the most excellent Seldom Seen Kid by Elbow on 45rpm 180g heavy weight double vinyl.

My sister and bro-in-law gave me Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever, which even has a song about Zombie's on it Zombie Zoo.

My lovely wife, gave me an absolute classic album ... Mudhoney's Superfuzzbigmuff.  For those of you not in the know a Big Muff Pi ...is actually a guitar fuzz pedal made by Electro-Harmonix, here's the two from my pedal collection (Left: USA 1980 version, Right: Green Russian version)...
